A common misconception that most people hold in their minds is that decorating one’s house is an expensive undertaking. Sure, it can be. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Enter DIY decorating. With a few everyday household items and a little creativity, you can turn essential things into gorgeous (and inexpensive) home decor.
Gorgeous Glass Jars
Have a few extra recyclable glasses lying around? A little bit of paint can work wonderfully in transforming them into reusable glassware. By choosing the right paint, you can also ensure that your new glassware is dishwasher-friendly.
Not only are you preventing waste, but you’re saving a few extra dollars as well. Now, there’s no need to go out for seasonal glassware shopping since everything you need is in your recycle bin.
Sharpie Doodle Lamp
That plain old table lamp in your bedroom might need an update. Now, there’s no need to throw it out and replace it with something chicer. Instead, you can grab a trusty oil-based Sharpie marker and doodle away. You might want to practice your designs on a separate sheet of paper first. If you’re artistic, you can turn your old lamp into something quite beautiful.
Book Side Table
Put your dusty law books to use with a book side table. To assemble, begin by cutting to form a box frame that fits snugly around one book. Next, nail the frame to the tabletop’s underside and paint the top. Drill a hole the size of a dowel through each book’s center and add glue dowel to the center of the table’s underside. Finally, stack your books, lining up holes, and twisting. Add books as needed to adjust the height of the side table. Skewer the dowel through the holes to attach the tabletop.
Wallpaper Decal Fridge
Peel and stick wallpapers of all sorts of designs can be found at your local arts and crafts store. Once you find a design you like, measure and cut according to the dimensions of your refrigerator. Peel and stick onto the fridge for an impressive decal effect. Be sure to look for wallpaper that can be cleaned easily by wiping down.
If you have kids who enjoy Play-Doh, you may consider enlisting their help for this one. You can choose from a variety of colors and mold the tray to your liking. You can even imprint patterns onto the tray. These are perfect for keeping your car keys and other knick-knacks.
Fabric + Chalkboard Room Divider
Need a comfortable and stylish way to separate spaces in your home? Try a multifunctional fabric and chalkboard divider. These dividers are upholstered on a patterned fabric on one side and painted with chalkboard paint on the other.
On the side of the chalkboard, you can even grab some colored chalk and draw some designs as you wish. Some people like to write their reminders on the board.
